What UTM tags are and where to find them in Google Analytics 4

UTM tags are five optional parameters added after ? in a URL: utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content. The page does not change; your analytics reads them and credits the visit to the right source.

Build and shorten

Use the free UTM link builder with its channel presets, then shorten the result on linkz.ge. The short link redirects to the full tagged URL, so the tags reach your site. For business links untick "Ads and earnings on this link", which is on by default.

Where to look in GA4

  1. Open Reports, then Acquisition, then Traffic acquisition.
  2. Switch the primary dimension to Session source / medium, or to Session campaign.
  3. Use the Realtime report for a quick test, since standard reports can lag. Interface names may change over time.

Rules

Use lowercase, no spaces, Latin characters and one consistent vocabulary. Do not tag internal links on your own site. linkz.ge counts link clicks while GA4 counts sessions, so the numbers will not match exactly. See also Facebook ad links with UTM.
