One link, different pages by country and device
How to send visitors to different destinations by country or device from one short link: targeting rules, priority and limits.
One link cannot always serve everyone: a visitor in Georgia needs the local delivery page, someone abroad needs international ordering, and phone and desktop visitors may need different pages.
What geo/device targeting does
You add rules to a link: "if the country is GE, open this page", "if the device is Mobile, open that one". Rules are checked in order and the first match wins. If nothing matches, the link works as usual: A/B rotation and the mobile URL (if set), otherwise the main destination.
What a rule can contain
- Country: a two-letter ISO code such as
GE,DE,USorTR. - Device:
Mobile,DesktoporTablet. - At least one of the two; an empty field means any. Up to 10 rules per link, with no repeated country and device pair.
Setting it up
- It is a paid feature (Pro and Business); see pricing.
- When creating a link open "Advanced options"; for an existing link open the link editor. Find "Geo/device targeting".
- Add a rule with a country and/or device and a destination. New rules are added at the end of the list, so add specific rules before general ones; to change the order, delete a rule and add it again.
Examples
- Georgia versus the diaspora: main destination is the international page, plus one rule
GEpointing to the local page. - Phone versus desktop: a
Mobilerule to the mobile page, the main URL for everyone else. - App stores: rules cannot tell iPhone from Android, so send
Mobileto one page with both App Store and Google Play buttons.
Priority and limits
Order: geo/device rule, then the mobile URL, then A/B rotation, then the main URL. Country comes from a Cloudflare header, so VPN visitors appear in the VPN country, and without the header country rules never match. There is no OS, city or language targeting, and the Tablet type is detected from the browser User-Agent, so some tablets (many newer iPads, Android tablets) look like Desktop. Country rules are for routing, not for access control, because a visitor can change country with a VPN. Editing the rules resets the per-rule click counters (the link's total stays). If ads are enabled on the link, visitors see the ad page first. Per-rule clicks (bots excluded) are shown under the link in your link list ("Clicks per destination") and returned by GET /api/v1/links in targets. More: geo and device targeting.
